Description

A Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the efficient operation of a law office. They carry out a variety of administrative tasks, such as maintaining and organizing legal files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. Legal Assistants also assist attorneys by preparing for court cases, managing schedules, and liaising with clients. With strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills, they ensure that all legal procedures run smoothly, facilitating the overall workflow and contributing to the successful practice of law.

Requirements

- Associate's degree or higher in Paralegal Studies or a similar field
- Paralegal certification preferred
- 2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal

Responsabilities

- Draft, review, and revise legal documents and correspondence
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information
- Maintain and organize client files, both physical and electronic
- Schedule and coordinate appointments, meetings, and court hearings
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including assembling exhibits and trial binders
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Prepare and file legal documents with courts and other relevant agencies
- Manage and track filing deadlines to ensure compliance
- Assist with estate planning tasks such as drafting wills and trusts
- Update and manage case management databases
- Compile and summarize data for reports and case documentation
- Handle administrative tasks such as billing, invoicing, and time entry
- Prepare and distribute minutes from meetings and hearings
- Gather and organize discovery materials
- Conduct initial client intake interviews and collect necessary information
- Perform notary public duties, if certified
- Assist with the organization and administration of corporate records and documents
- Track and manage incoming and outgoing mail related to legal matters
- Coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries for attorneys
- Review and summarize depositions, interrogatories, and other legal documents
