Responsabilities

As a Production Planner, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed production schedules that align with customer orders and business objectives. You will analyze sales forecasts and historical data to predict production volumes and ensure that production timelines are met. This role involves coordinating with various departments, including procurement to ensure that raw materials are available when needed and logistics to plan the transportation of goods. You will also monitor production processes and adjust schedules as necessary to address any delays or disruptions, ensuring that deadlines are consistently met. Your role is crucial in maintaining the balance between demand and supply, minimizing production downtime, and optimizing overall manufacturing efficiency.

Additionally, the Production Planner is tasked with managing inventory levels, ensuring that there is neither too much nor too little stock on hand, thereby reducing holding costs and avoiding stockouts. You will work closely with quality control teams to ensure that all products meet required standards before being shipped to customers. This includes coordinating with suppliers to resolve any issues related to material quality or delivery schedules. You will also prepare regular reports on production performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance productivity. Your strong analytical skills will be essential in forecasting future production needs, enabling the company to adapt swiftly to changing market conditions and maintain a competitive edge.

Recommended studies/certifications

A Production Planner typically requires a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, industrial engineering, business administration, or a related field. Certifications such as the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from APICS can be highly beneficial. Additional coursework or certifications in project management, lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma methodologies can enhance a candidate's qualifications. Proficiency in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and experience with production planning software is also crucial. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and organizational abilities, are essential for success in this role.
